Hoyt Arboretum Portland Senior Photos

Forest Park is an amazing place to take senior photos: the area is huge and there are trees and trails and open spaces to shoot.

I specifically love Hoyt Arboretum because there is such a great variety of backdrops in a walkable area. There is the redwood deck, the canopy-covered trails, an open meadow and all the foliage you could ever dream of.

It’s best to shoot on either side of the day: either early (close to sunrise) or later in the day (an hour or so before sunset). This is going to be the prettiest time to take photos, when the light is the lowest and most filtered. Hoyt is especially gorgeous in the early morning when the fog rolls down through the trees, but it is equally lovely in the evening.

Hoyt is also a fantastic place to shoot throughout the year—it’s perfect in every season: fall lends itself to bright yellow and orange foliage; the summer is lush and green; the winter is a bit more stark and the spring bursts with blooms and color.

If you are wanting senior photos in a place that feels very Oregon, a spot that is a little bit wild and full of dappled light with many options for gorgeous backdrops, Forest park might be perfect for your senior pics!
